Guidance for Developing More Resilient Airport Infrastructure in California

Research Team: Jasenka Rakas (lead) and Sarah Lindbergh

UC Campus(es): UC Berkeley

Problem Statement: Despite major progress in climate risk management in the last decade, particularly within the air transportation sector, airports have lagged behind in developing more resilient infrastructure.

Project Description: This research developed an introductory guide to climate-sensitive policies for airport infrastructure maintenance, operation, development and investment; conducted a state-wide analysis of airport infrastructure exposure to coastal flooding based on projected sea level rise and storm surge data from California’s 4th Climate Change Assessment; and identified the roles of major stakeholders in setting airport climate adaptation policies.
