The University of California Institute of Transportation Studies (UC ITS) statewide research program is supported by funding received from the Public Transportation Account and the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1). Research priorities for this program are developed on an annual basis in consultation with the Chair of the California Senate Housing and Transportation Committee, the Chair of the California Assembly Transportation Committee, the Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency, and the UC ITS Board of Advisors. The UC ITS’s research priorities and projects are organized in the following areas, though many priorities and projects overlap these boundaries:

  • Shared, connected, and autonomous vehicles;
  • Environment, energy, health, and transportation;
  • Logistics and goods movement;
  • Transportation equity;
