Webinar: Building a Multimodal California: A Look into the Impacts and Challenges of Ridehailing and Microtransit

DATE: July 19, 2023

TIME: 11:00am to 12:30pm PDT

LOCATION: Online

EVENT OVERVIEW: California is building multimodal transportation networks that include new shared mobility options, such as microtransit and ridehailing services. These innovative options demonstrate strong potential for providing better alternatives to driving, expanding the reach of public transit service, and meeting the travel needs of Californians – while reducing vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and advancing the state’s climate goals. However, much remains to be learned about these services in terms of their performance, impacts, and scalability. This webinar will feature new research from the Resilient and Innovative Mobility Initiative (RIMI) on the evolving roles of microtransit and ridehailing services in California. Specifically, speakers will discuss effects of transportation network companies on VMT, greenhouse gas emissions, and personal vehicle ownership; share lessons learned from early microtransit deployments; and explore opportunities for better integration of microtransit and fixed-route transit service.
